The Sauce Subscription - September '25
Sadly, September marks the end of Summer. Luckily, good wine never ends with the Sauce Subscription.
In the September edition of the Whole Bunch Wines Sauce Subscription, you will find oak-aged reds, big and textured white wines. Yet, we still made sure that they retain a touch of freshness, fruitiness and/or florality, just in case you manage to catch the last of those Summer rays.
Many of these wines aren't regulars on our shelves, so if you'd like to see some of these in the future, please let us know! We always make sure that our subscribers receive new and exciting wines each and every month.
Red Wine
Kaiken Disobedience Red Blend [£34]
Starting with a fan favourite. This blend of Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot is a rich oak aged wine, (30% first fill), which also spends 6 months in the bottle. Without doubt, an exceptional and complex wine packed with spicy, herbaceous and ripe red and black fruit flavours that linger in a persistent finish.
Mitolo Jester Shiraz [£30]
We still have a rich and full Aussie shiraz, but it leans towards the fresher side of the spectrum. Although, there are subtle signs of oak ageing on the nose and palate.
Bodegas Ego Marionette Red Blend [£24]
The Marionette spends a few weeks in stainless steel, before spending two to three months in aged American oak to add texture and softness to the strong tannins. Look for subtle toasted notes with ripe black fruit flavours.
Altos Las Hormigas Colonia Las Liebres [£20.50]
Bonarda often plays second fiddle to Malbec in Argentina. This grape is originally from Italy, where it is known as Douce Noir. It is known for notable tannins and powerful flavours of black fruit, with flairs of pink pepper, eucalyptus and black olive.
Bodega Garzon Reserve Tannat [£31]
An established Uruguayan icon which was recognised as 'New World Winery of the Year' in Wine Enthusiast. This particular offering has a deep purple colour with intense notes of black plum, juicy blackberry and hints of spices on the nose. Tannic, but balanced.
Izadi Larrosa Rioja Negra [£25]
Bodegas Izadi is owned and ran by Lalo Antón and his family. They also run Michelin starred restaurant Zaldiaran. All fruit for this wine was hand harvested and destemmed at the winery. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, before the wine was aged for six months in a combination of second and third fill, French and American oak. It boats notes of lavender, cocoa, red fruit, plum and blackberry.
White Wine
Izadi Larrosa Rosado [£24]
We are staying with Bodegas Izadi, but this time it is all about their pink and perfect rosé wine. The 100% Garnacha wine has a light pink hue, but a real roundness and richness of flavour. Florality and fresh fruit flow forth from this rosé you can drink all year round.
Molino Real Mountain Blanco [£33]
Next up, is a dry Muscat from the mountains of Malaga. Hand-picked grapes are placed between two straw mats and crushed using an olive oil press. You'll be bonked on the head with powerful notes of green grapes, wild herbs, orange blossom and rose petals, as well as touches of peach, greengage, mandarin and melon. A real find and a must try!
Cave de Hunawihr Gewürztraminer Reserve [£25.50]
A mix of parcels from Hunawihr vineyards leads to this mega ripe concoction. All fermentation is temperature controlled and followed by time in stainless steel. No malolactic fermentation occurs as Gewürztraminer contains very little acidity, so they want to retain what they can. Unctuous texture, perfumed and altogether delicious.
Pacheco Pereda Estirpe Chardonnay [£21]
Whole Bunch Wines loves Chardonnay, but Burgundy is played out, so we're off to Mendoza. Only 15% of the wine spends four months in oak which adds a lovely, rich texture to this really exciting and vibrant wine that isn't shy of the fresh and fruity flavours.
Bodega Garzon Estate Viognier de Corte [£23]
Another absolute stunner from Uruguay. This time it is a 100% Condrieu which rivals much of the Northern Rhône. Hand harvested grapes show a delicate floral and tart fruity notes of apple, pear and apricot. You also have three months of lees ageing to add more texture to the already rich wine.
Poggio Al Tesoro Solesole [£33.50]
We finish of our month with a Tuscan Vermentino which will make you forget about Chianti. The deeply mineral and textured white wine shows off notes of white flowers, yellow plum, gravel, apricot, pink grapefruit, nectarine and peach.
