Hallo-Wine: Scary Sips for Spooky Somms - Whole Bunch Wines Wine Tasting

We had to get spooky for Halloween. So, we found some absolutely iconic wines that have cropped up in some equally iconic horror flicks. Scary sips indeed...

Get your Hannibal Lecter on, you all know what to pair "with some fava beans and a nice chianti".

Let's take a look at the wines which made it into the most spooky wine tasting around.

Don't forget that all attendees get 10% off all purchases of the wines which featured in this tasting!

Jericho Wines Fumé Blanc [£29.50]

Now, we bent the rules a bit here. The Halloween Film Franchise features a Meritage wine, which refers to Bordeaux style wines. A prime example of this is oaked Sauvignon Blanc. To avoid being to Yank-centric, (as a film-inspired tasting could be), we've given you an Aussie wine just because it is downright delicious. We want you to have nothing but the best at our wine tastings.

Fumé Blanc wines are new-world concoctions that seek to emulate the oaked Sauvignon Blanc's of the renowned Pouilly-Fumé region of France.

This particular wine boasts notes of brioche, lemon tart, baking spice, fresh citrus, passion fruit and cashews. This is all thanks to the grape itself, as well as oak and lees ageing.

De Loach Heritage Chardonnay [£26]

This next tipple comes from the wonderfully unnerving American Psycho. Patrick Bateman explicitly mentions that his drink of choice is a fine Californian Chardonnay, (such as this offering from De Loach). He even brings it up to a few ladies before a particularly raunchy scene. So, if you want to drink this while checking yourself out in the mirror - we wouldn't blame you...

The De Loach Heritage Chardonnay was fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and concrete (30%) and French oak barrels (70%), of which 10% were new. It balances fresh fruit notes with touches of vanilla and brioche. It is rich with well-balanced acidity on the palate.

No Fine Print Cabernet Sauvignon [£34]

Now, you don't need to worry. The Blair Witch Project is absolutely fictional and it can't hurt you. However, the inspiration for the film comes from the tale of a haunting at a vineyard and the film itself was actually filmed on location at a Californian vineyard. It wasn't the haunted one though, I suppose they didn't want to take any chances.

Our choice for a Cali Cab Sav comes from No Fine Print. Although, this wine does also have touches of Merlot and Petit Sirah. No fuss, no frills - just good juice. It is bursting with black fruit flavours, alongside subtle savoury qualities that present just a tinge of bitterness on the palate to balance the sweet fruit flavours.

Felsina Berardegna Chianti Classico Riserva

This one should be obvious to any horror film fans. Silence of the Lambs is truly iconic. Everyone remembers Anthony Hopkins bone-chilling snake-like tongue poking out. The character of Hannibal Lecter was a cultured man who knew a thing or two about pairing wine with food. Although, it's probably best to avoid his dinner parties. Yet, If you did attend and you were served liver, then it would undoubtedly be paired with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

If you're looking for a nice Chianti, then the Felsina Berardegna Chianti Classico Riserva is certainly one. It comes from the esteemed Classico portion of the Chianti region and this 100% Sangiovese wine will draw you in with supple tannins, an excellent structure and intense notes of wild berries, spices and blossom.

Don't Miss Out!
